County, North Carolina The Little Pine Garnet Mine was mined since the early 1900's for abrasive garnet. Today, the site is still open for collecting, out of all the sites listed, the Little Pine is the only one I would recommend collecting in. Be aware that the floor is at a severe slant which can make walking difficult and remember to wear a hard hat and headlamp when inside the mine. The shaft extends approximately 150 feet into the mountain. Entrance to the mine. Notice the floor at a slant which can make walking difficult. Eastern Pipistril Bat. Frosty Pipistril Bat. Little Pine Bat hanging out. |
